Video Poker is a very popular and well-known version amongst the many variations of the poker game. It is also known as fixed-odds poker or poker slots because in casino’s it is played on computerized consoles which look similar to the actual slot machines. Video poker can also be played online and the gameplay is the same. The game does not require much strategy, just the understanding of the poker hand rankings is enough.
At the start, the player sets the amount he wants to play the game with by adjusting it on the screen.
When he/she hits the play button, the game begins. There are 2 rounds, in the first one, 5 cards are dealt in front of the player from which they decide either to hold those cards or discard them and get new cards in the second round. The cards which are then left, decide how much the player wins based on their ranking.
Let us understand this with an example. We have set the bet, and after pressing the play button are dealt these cards:
Out of these 5 cards, the King and Queen of hearts can be very useful to us as they can help us get either a flush or a straight, so we decide to hold them (by simply clicking on them).
Now, we press the play button again for the second round of cards to be dealt. This time, the 3, 6 and 5 are replaced with new cards as we have held to the Kind and Queen of hearts.
The new cards get us 6, 3, and 10 of hearts, which along with our previous two cards make a flush, hence winning us an amount pre-set in the game for this particular hand ranking.
