Bihar Court Receives PIL Accusing Rohit, Hardik, Ganguly and Actors of ‘Promoting’ Gambling!

A public interest lawsuit (PIL) has been filed in a district court by a social activist from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, accusing former Indian cricket captain and BCCI president Saurav Ganguly, cricketers Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya, actor Aamir Khan, and others of promoting gambling.

The petitioner, Tammanah Hashmi, claimed that by encouraging young people to gamble through IPL-related online games, these celebrities put at risk their present and future. According to Hashmi, the youth are being tricked and attracted by tempting prizes, which could cause them to develop a gambling addiction.

Hashmi claimed that well-known figures from the fields of film and cricket are promoting various gaming programmes and tempting their fans to create teams for the Indian Premier League (IPL). While some have received rewards, the petitioner claims that others will develop gambling addictions. The case's next hearing is scheduled for April 22.

Notably, Hashmi has previously filed PILs against well-known people for a variety of reasons. Online gambling and sports betting can be addictive so it is crucial to gambling responsibly.
